The KCBIA aims to promote business growth and economic development in a format that will make the central business area of Kamloops a better place to visit, live and work. We are looking for a downtown business person or organization who has contributed to our goal of maintaining a vibrant and liveable downtown core.

Downtown Leadership Award Recipients

Downtown Leadership Award 2015 winner Jason Fawcett of KELSON GROUP.  Active in the community is an understatement when it comes to describing Jason Fawcett.  Jason, a father ofjason-fawcett-kelson-group two and born and raised in Kamloops is the Vice President of the Kelson Group, Vice President of the United Way, coaches two soccer teams and manages his sons hockey team. Off the field he brings his daily life principles to work with him at the Kelson Group.  The Kelson Group, which is a family owned company started with our first property over 40 years and have established a
long-term vision to maintain and hold our properties long into the future. They believe in maintaining their properties to a high level, keeping customer service a priority and pride themselves on their philosophy of giving back to the community.

Here in Downtown Kamloops, they own four properties with the most recognizable being Kelson Place on the corner or 3rd Ave and Victoria Street. Community minded and always giving back, the Kelson Group supports projects and programs in Kamloops like the Homelessness Action Plan’s Rent Bank, have an established partnership with ASK Wellness, providing housing in their Jade Garden building and sponsoring Western Canada Theatre. They also as a group participate in community service with things like United Way Days of Caring and the Heart & Stroke Big Bike.

We in Downtown Kamloops are thrilled to have such big community champions be a part of our neighborhood. It is families like the Fawcett’s and companies like Kelson Group that have helped grow and encourage Kamloops to be a place we all love to call home.


Downtown Leadership Award 2014 was presented to Gina Caputo which was accepted by sister Anna Harrison of Genesis Fashion & Beauty and the Caputo Family. Gina along with her partners opened Genesis in June of 1987, Genesis has been it the same location all these years, and as a hairstylist Gina touched many lives over the years; many of her clients had been coming to her from the very beginning and became her extended family. Gina’s involvement in the community included board member for the Downtown Business Association, Many years on the board and executive of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce,  Member of the Can-Ital Ladies for 10 years as well as holding the position of President for 5 years, Member and Board Member with Kamloops West Rotary Club, President of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, Gina’s passions above everything were her nieces and nephews, as well as her love for travel.
